Korean Regimen Kit Step by Step: Oily/Acne Prone

How to use your Korean Regimen Kit: Oily/Acne Prone

This skincare regimen is for those who have excess sebum production and find themselves struggling with shine, blackheads, acne, enlarged pores.

After thorough testing, research and discussing with experts, customers and our team, we thoughtfully hand-picked a complete Korean skincare regimen for those who have oily / acne-prone skin. Each product is gentle enough for those with sensitive skin, and when used altogether, these products work well together and can help manage that excess sebum production and create a more velvet-y, more blemish-free appearance.

We recommend incorporating 1-2 products per week into your regimen to avoid overwhelming your skin.  To ensure that you see positive results, we encourage you to be consistent with your routine, as skipping steps or entire regimen can completely undo progress that you've made. These products are listed in the order that you would apply them.  Allow 30 seconds to 1 minute between each step to ensure that each is completely soaked in.

Morning Routine

Your alarm goes off, it’s early, and it’s time to start the day. There’s no better way to wake up your skin than a complete skincare routine. Think of it as your complete breakfast; your skin won’t function well without it. It provides your skin with nutrients and nourishment to be healthy, happy, and under control.

Step 1: Foaming Cleanser

Using a foaming cleanser in the morning is essential for a few reasons. It cleanses your skin of any impurities from overnight. As you sleep, your skin produces oils. You’ll want to balance your skin before starting your routine. In addition to this, a clean canvas is a better way to start your regimen as it allows your products to be absorbed with less of a barrier of entry. If your toner was applied onto skin that has not been cleansed, you won’t see the best results.

To use, apply a dime size amount to your hands. Massage onto wet skin using small circular motions. Rinse the face clean, be sure to remove any residue of the cleaner, and pat the skin dry with a clean towel (unless you’re following up with an exfoliator).

For this kit, you’ll use the Aromatica Tea Tree Foaming Cleanser. A gentle foaming cleanser formulated with USDA organic aloe vera and tea tree oil to effectively remove dirt and makeup to leave skin feeling purified, fresh and toned without stripping away natural oils. Burdock and comfrey root extracts provide calm and hydrating effects. Geranium, bitter orange, bergamot essential oil scents add a stress-relieving factor.

Step 2: Exfoliator (1-3 times per week)

If radiant, glowing, smooth skin that accepts products more easily is appealing to you, you’ll want to exfoliate regularly. Exfoliation helps to remove surface dead skin cells and encourage cell turnover. It can benefit all skin types and concerns as it helps to even out skin tone, address hyperpigmentation, smooth our skin texture, and remove dead skin to prevent dirt and oils from getting clogged within the pores. Morning is an excellent time to do this. If you exfoliate in the evening, your skin will renew and rejuvenate overnight, causing some of your efforts to be lost.

To use: After cleansing, apply a dime sized amount of product to your hands. Gently massage over the face, paying close attention to sensitive areas as well as areas that are often overlooked (jawline, around the nose, etc.). Don’t scrub aggressively as this can cause irritation very quickly and hurt your skin more than it helps. Rinse the product clean and pat the skin dry. We recommend using this scrub 1-3 times per week in the mornings.

For this kit you’ll use the Be The Skin Non-Stimulus Facial Polisher. This super gentle product is a gommage exfoliant—it's applied to dry skin. The light gel texture clears skin buildup, especially dry flakes for smooth skin ready to effectively receive following regimen steps. Korean women are very strict about making sure they exfoliate gently, avoiding coarse scrubs and harsh ingredients like glycolic acid. Use once to three times weekly.

Step 3: Toner

Time to tone. The second step in your routine should be a toner.  A toner's main function is to balance the skin's pH and gently remove excess dead skin cells.  This is important because when the skin's pH is balanced and dead skin is removed, a better surface for serums and lotions is achieved.  If you skip this step, your routine becomes less effective and results are muted.

To use, apply a dime sized amount of toner to a cotton pad. Sweep over the face. Allow it to absorb before moving on to the next step. For this kit you’ll use the Be the Skin Botanical Pore Toner A toner that balances skin's pH level with all-natural ingredients that helps minimize the look of pores and gently preps the skin for serum and lotion. Timeless botanical herbs and Alaskan glacier water help soothe the skin.

Step 4: Essence

Essentially it’s the essence step. Let us explain. The next step in your routine may be new to you.  An essence is a crucial part of a Korean skincare routine.  An essence is a watery serum that allows your skin to accept products more effectively.  It delicately hydrates the skin and absorbs fairly quickly.

To use, you can either apply to a cotton pad, then pat into the skin, or you can apply to your hands, then pat into the skin. As long as you pat the product onto your face, you’re ensuring that it is being absorbed and applied correctly.

For this kit you’ll use the Cremorlab Mineral Treatment Essence. The Mineral Treatment Essence is a best-seller and features Cremorlab's proprietary T.E.N. thermal water as a hero ingredient. This product is great for helping with hydrating, brightening, smoothing your skin and skin texture. This product is paraben-free, artificial color-free, fragrance-free, and denatured alcohol-free.

Step 5: Sheet Mask (1-3 times per week)

Sheet masks helps to provide deep relief for skin concerns using targeted ingredients to produce specific results. Looking to brighten, address fine lines and wrinkles, address breakouts, or hydration concerns? Apply a sheet mask that caters to your need. These allow you to optimize your skincare routine to your skin that day. These can be applied morning or evening.

To use, open the package and remove the mask. Unfold and align the mask onto your face. There’s time limits on the packaging (typically 10-30 minutes), be sure to remove when the time is up. Discard the mask and pat the remaining essence into the skin. Don’t wash off your skin. At this point, you can continue with your regimen and apply your serums, or you can head skip the serums and go to the eye cream step. It all depends on your time needs and how your skin is feeling that day.

In this kit you’ll use the Cremorlab Herb Tea Blemish Minus Calming Face Mask This 100% organic cotton sheet mask delivers highly concentrated hydrating and calming ingredients into the skin. Special thermal water increases skin moisture content while polyphenols and tannins from chamomile and black herb tea extracts help to soothe and improve the skin's complexion. The mask forces ingredients to gently absorb into dry, coarse skin to leave a radiant glow. Free of parabens, benzophenone, mineral-oil, petrolatum, talc.

Step 5: Serums

Now it’s personal. During the serum step of your routine, you can layer one or more serums to achieve your skincare goals.  Serums are targeted treatments that contain super small molecules targeted at specific skin concerns.  This is a step where you can customize your routine to your time needs as well as your skin's needs.  If you're limited in amount of time that you have, you can apply one serum in the day time and one in the evening.  If you have a busier morning, apply one in the morning and both at night.  It's truly a personalized step that will allow you to achieve your skincare goals and not take up too much time.  The other benefit to these products is that they are so light in texture that they absorb very quickly to the skin.

To use the first serum (Mizon Mela Defense White Capsule Essence Serum), apply one pump to your hands and massage over the face. Allow 15-30 seconds for the product to soak in and follow with one pump of the second serum (Be the Skin Botanical Pore Serum).

The two serums in this kit are:

Mizon Mela Defense White Capsule Essence Serum A brightening essence that helps address hyperpigmentation, including dark spots, discoloration from acne, etc. Contains sakura and white flower to brighten and revitalize skin for a healthier, more even skin tone.

Be the Skin Botanical Pore Serum (Blue) A serum packed with natural ingredients and formulated to soothe the skin and minimize the appearance of pores. Botanical herbs, Alaskan glacier water and sea plants hydrate while helping to control oil production.

Step 6: Eye Cream

Often overlooked, yet incredibly essential, the eye cream step is quick and easy. .  It's important not to skip this step because the eye area is so delicate and prone to damage that special care is essential.  The skin under and surround the eyes is very thin (the eye lids have the thinnest skin on the body).  This means that it's more prone to dehydration, fine lines, and irritation.  An eye cream is formulated to deliver the adequate nutrients to prevent the look of aging, dark circles, or dehydration.

To use, apply a very small amount to the ring fingers. Use a patting motion as you apply to the orbital bone, temple area, and the eye lids.  Don't massage this skin or rub the area to apply.  This will cause fine lines and could irritate the area.  Avoid applying it too close to the eye itself as this can be painful if it makes it's way into the eye.  This should be applied morning and night, but if you're pressed for time, once a day is acceptable.

For this kit, you’ll use the Aromatica Rose Absolute Eye Cream. Help protect against signs of aging and dark circles with this nourishing eye cream. The Rose Eye Cream is formulated with some of the highest quality Bulgarian rose oil, organic Argan oil, and organic aloe vera to leave the delicate eye area looking and feeling smoother and more moisturized.

Step 7: Moisturizer

Onto the finish line! The last step in your routine should be a moisturizer.  A moisturizer not only hydrates the skin, it also seals in moisture.  Moisturizers don't have to be heavy creams that leave you feeling congested or over hydrated.  Instead, there are some incredible formulations that provide healthy hydration without leaving you feeling oily.  You'll want to follow this step with an SPF during the day time as well.

To use take a pea sized amount onto your fingertips. Massage it into your face. Once it’s absorbed, follow with an SPF.

In this kit you’ll use the Mizon All In One Snail Repair Cream. A truly innovative and hydrating cream formulated with 92% snail extract. This best-selling cream has sold by the millions across Asia for its high efficacy ingredients. The All-In-One Snail Repair Cream hydrates, helps improve the appearance of fine lines, and helps reduce the appearance of acne scarring and blemishes.

We mentioned that we recommend ending your morning routine with an SPF. Though it’s not included in kit, if you’re looking for a great sunscreen that works with all skin types, we recommend the Mizon UV Mild Sunblock.

This sunscreen is a physical sunscreen with titanium dioxide as the main active ingredient, which actively blocks UVA and UVB rays with SPF35/PA++. It's also made with vegetable extracts which soothe and protect skin and help control the balance of oil and moisture during the hot summer days. It protects your skin not only from UVA/UBA rays but also pollution in the air by forming a skin protecting shield. It goes on with a white, creamy texture but dries matte without the white cakey-ness that many sunscreens have.

Evening Routine

The day is done, it’s time to get some beauty sleep. Before you head to bed, it’s essential to do your nightly regimen. Your nightly regimen allows your skin to renew as you sleep, absorb all of the amazing products and deeply treat your skin. This routine is almost identical to your morning routine.

Step 1: Oil Cleanser

We recommend using a double cleansing method in the evenings to break down makeup, SPF, and any other pollutants from the day.  Double cleansing includes the use of an oil-based cleanser and a foaming cleanser.  You don't have to worry about an oil-based cleanser clogging your pores or causing breakouts because 1) the cleanser works on the surface of the skin and isn't present enough to clog or seep into the skin 2) the oil that is in these cleansers are safe to use on any skin type.  These oils are not going to leave you feeling congested, oily, or like you're going to break out.

The oil cleanser is used with dry hands onto dry face, directly over makeup.  It's massaged into the skin, even over eye makeup, then rinsed clean.  Be sure that you're rinsing all of the oil off of your skin, then follow with the foaming cleanser.

For this kit you’ll use the Mizon No. 1 King’s Berry Cleansing Oil. Black chokeberries (also known as King's berries) are packed with essential phyto-nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants with more anthocyanin than grapes, and more catechins and tannins than green tea.  This chokeberry-infused cleansing oil helps cleanse pores and hydrates the skin leaving it soft and moisturized. Powerful antioxidants help protect the skin from environmental factors and helps boost elasticity. Free of artificial colors, fragrances, parabens, benzophenone, and alcohol.
