Korean Regimen Kit Step by Step: Dry Skin

How to use your Korean Regimen Kit: Dry Skin

This skincare regimen is appropriate for those who lack sufficient sebum production and generally also lack hydration because dry, brittle skin barriers often lead to a whole lot of moisture leaving the skin.

After thorough testing, research and discussing with experts, customers and our team, we thoughtfully hand-picked a complete Korean skincare regimen for those who have dry skin. Each product is gentle enough for those with sensitive skin, and when used altogether, these products work well together and can help bring that inner glow out, finally.

Morning Routine

Your alarm goes off, it’s early, and it’s time to start the day.  There’s no better way to wake up your skin than a complete skincare routine. Think of it as your complete breakfast; your skin won’t function well without it.  It provides your skin with nutrients and nourishment to be healthy, happy, and under control.

Step 1: Foaming Cleanser

Using a foaming cleanser in the morning is essential for a few reasons.  It cleanses your skin of any impurities from overnight.  As you sleep, your skin produces oils.  You’ll want to balance your skin before starting your routine.  In addition to this, a clean canvas is a better way to start your regimen as it allows your products to be absorbed with less of a barrier of entry.  If your toner was applied onto skin that has not been cleansed, you won’t see the best results.

To use, apply a dime size amount to your hands.  Massage onto wet skin using small circular motions.  Rinse the face clean, be sure to remove any residue of the cleaner, and pat the skin dry with a clean towel (unless you’re following up with an exfoliator).

For this kit, you’ll use the Mizon Snail Cushion Foaming Cleanser.  Specially formulated with snail extract - this cleanser comes from the best-selling, high-efficacy snail repair line. It lathers into a sticky, "mochi-like" foam that effectively clings onto and washes away impurities while reducing the formation of blackheads. Also actively hydrates, softens, and improves overall skin complexion.

Step 2: Exfoliator (1-3 times per week)

If radiant, glowing, smooth skin that accepts products more easily is appealing to you, you’ll want to exfoliate regularly.  Exfoliation helps to remove surface dead skin cells and encourage cell turnover.  It can benefit all skin types and concerns as it helps to even out skin tone, address hyperpigmentation, smooth our skin texture, and remove dead skin to prevent dirt and oils from getting clogged within the pores.  Morning is an excellent time to do this.  If you exfoliate in the evening, your skin will renew and rejuvenate overnight, causing some of your efforts to be lost.

To use: After cleansing, on wet skin, and wet the puff.  Massage over the face gently.  Don’t scrub aggressively as this can cause irritation very quickly and hurt your skin more than it helps.  Rinse the product clean and pat the skin dry.  We recommend using this scrub 1-3 times per week in the mornings.

For this kit you’ll use the Morihata Binchotan Facial Puff.  An all-natural facial puff made with Binchotan charcoal and Konjac root to very gently exfoliate and cleanse the face for brighter, healthier, radiant skin.

Step 3: Toner

Time to tone.  The second step in your routine should be a toner.  A toner's main function is to balance the skin's pH and gently remove excess dead skin cells.  This is important because when the skin's pH is balanced and dead skin is removed, a better surface for serums and lotions is achieved.  If you skip this step, your routine becomes less effective and results are muted.

To use, apply a dime sized amount of toner to a cotton pad.  Sweep over the face.  Allow it to absorb before moving on to the next step.

For this kit you’ll use the Be the Skin Botanical Nutrition Power Toner (Orange) A royal-jelly infused toner with all-natural ingredients that balances the skin's pH levels and hydrates the skin while helping to improve skin's firmness. Delivers moisture into the skin and gently preps for serums and lotions.

Step 4: Essence

Essentially it’s the essence step.  Let us explain.  The next step in your routine may be new to you.  An essence is a crucial part of a Korean skincare routine.  An essence is a watery serum that allows your skin to accept products more effectively.  It delicately hydrates the skin and absorbs fairly quickly.

To use, you can either apply to a cotton pad, then pat into the skin, or you can apply to your hands, then pat into the skin.  As long as you pat the product onto your face, you’re ensuring that it is being absorbed and applied correctly.

For this kit you’ll use the Cremorlab Aqua Essence Water Fluid. This water fluid is a type of essence that can be applied after toner and before your serums. It can be used as a "booster serum", an extra hydrating step that imparts conditioning and moisturizing elements to the skin. Your subsequent serums are then delivered into well-moisturized skin more effectively.

Step 5: Sheet Mask (1-3 times per week)

Sheet masks helps to provide deep relief for skin concerns using targeted ingredients to produce specific results.  Looking to brighten, address fine lines and wrinkles, address breakouts, or hydration concerns?  Apply a sheet mask that caters to your need.  These allow you to optimize your skincare routine to your skin that day.  These can be applied morning or evening.

To use, open the package and remove the mask.  Unfold and align the mask onto your face.  There’s time limits on the packaging (typically 10-30 minutes), be sure to remove when the time is up.  Discard the mask and pat the remaining essence into the skin. Don’t wash off your skin. At this point, you can continue with your regimen and apply your serums, or you can head skip the serums and go to the eye cream step.  It all depends on your time needs and how your skin is feeling that day.

In this kit you’ll use the Mizon Enjoy Vital Up Time Watery Moisture Mask This mask from Mizon is perfect for dry skin because it contains green tea extract which adds hydration back into parched skin. It includes Mizon’s "vital essence" which is formula made of 1) Allantoin to help recover your skin condition 2) Trehalose, which is a safe natural moisturizing ingredient 3) Hyaluronic Acid, a moisturizer that holds 1000 times its weight in water and 4) Sc-glucan, an ingredient that soothes and revitalizes. The masks adhere to your skin and allows the essence to seep into your skin to deliver hydration to dry skin.

Step 6: Serums

Now it’s personal.  During the serum step of your routine, you can layer one or more serums to achieve your skincare goals.  Serums are targeted treatments that contain super small molecules targeted at specific skin concerns.  This is a step where you can customize your routine to your time needs as well as your skin's needs.  If you're limited in amount of time that you have, you can apply one serum in the day time and one in the evening.  If you have a busier morning, apply one in the morning and both at night.  It's truly a personalized step that will allow you to achieve your skincare goals and not take up too much time.  The other benefit to these products is that they are so light in texture that they absorb very quickly to the skin.

To use the first serum (Aromatica Organic Argan Oil), apply 1-2 drops to your hands and massage over the face.  Allow 15-30 seconds for the product to soak in and follow with one pump of the second serum (Be the Skin Botanical Nutrition Power Serum- Orange).

The two serums in this kit are:

Aromatica Organic Argan Oil This facial oil is formulated with the highest grade, pure organic argan oil. It is extremely gentle on the skin and won't clog pores. It is formulated to provide major hydration which is an essential foundation to healthy skin.

Be the Skin Botanical Nutrition Power Serum (Orange) This serum draws on botanical herbs that have been used for thousands of years in Asian history to hydrate and help with signs of aging skin. This best-selling serum helps impart moisture and radiance to dry, dull skin.

Step 7: Eye Cream

Often overlooked, yet incredibly essential, the eye cream step is quick and easy.  .  It's important not to skip this step because the eye area is so delicate and prone to damage that special care is essential.  The skin under and surround the eyes is very thin (the eye lids have the thinnest skin on the body).  This means that it's more prone to dehydration, fine lines, and irritation.  An eye cream is formulated to deliver the adequate nutrients to prevent the look of aging, dark circles, or dehydration.

To use, apply a very small amount to the ring fingers.  Use a patting motion as you apply to the orbital bone, temple area, and the eye lids.  Don't massage this skin or rub the area to apply.  This will cause fine lines and could irritate the area.  Avoid applying it too close to the eye itself as this can be painful if it makes it's way into the eye.  This should be applied morning and night, but if you're pressed for time, once a day is acceptable.

For this kit, you’ll use the Cremorlab Shadow Off Eye Cream Formulated with highly nourishing ingredients, this dual-function eye cream works to help brighten dark circles and help smooth the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Cremorlab's T.E.N. thermal water provides hydration with its high mineral content, while helping maintain the delicate skin around the eye area. Niacinamide, peptides and adenosine help to to brighten, improve elasticity, and fight fine lines.

Step 8: Moisturizer

Onto the finish line! The last step in your routine should be a moisturizer.  A moisturizer not only hydrates the skin, it also seals in moisture.  Moisturizers don't have to be heavy creams that leave you feeling congested or over hydrated.  Instead, there are some incredible formulations that provide healthy hydration without leaving you feeling oily.  You'll want to follow this step with an SPF during the day time as well.

To use take a pea sized amount onto your fingertips.  Massage it into your face.  Once it’s absorbed, follow with an SPF.

In this kit you’ll use the Aromatica Rose Absolute Vital Cream.  This is the product for those of us who, no matter how much product we put on, have skin that pulls and flakes as soon as we walk out the door. Especially formulated for hydrating the driest and most sensitive skin, this cream contains Bulgarian rose oil, organic aloe vera, and other nutrient-filled botanicals and essential oils to moisturize while helping with signs of dullness and aging.

We mentioned that we recommend ending your morning routine with an SPF.  Though it’s not included in kit, if you’re looking for a great sunscreen that works with all skin types, we recommend the Mizon UV Mild Sunblock.  This sunscreen is a physical sunscreen with titanium dioxide as the main active ingredient, which actively blocks UVA and UVB rays with SPF35/PA++. It's also made with vegetable extracts which soothe and protect skin and help control the balance of oil and moisture during the hot summer days. It protects your skin not only from UVA/UBA rays but also pollution in the air by forming a skin protecting shield. It goes on with a white, creamy texture but dries matte without the white cakey-ness that many sunscreens have.

Evening Routine

The day is done, it’s time to get some beauty sleep.  Before you head to bed, it’s essential to do your nightly regimen.  Your nightly regimen allows your skin to renew as you sleep, absorb all of the amazing products and deeply treat your skin.  This routine is almost identical to your morning routine.

Step 1: Oil Cleanser

We recommend using a double cleansing method in the evenings to break down makeup, SPF, and any other pollutants from the day.  Double cleansing includes the use of an oil-based cleanser and a foaming cleanser.  You don't have to worry about an oil-based cleanser clogging your pores or causing breakouts because 1) the cleanser works on the surface of the skin and isn't present enough to clog or seep into the skin 2) the oil that is in these cleansers are safe to use on any skin type.  These oils are not going to leave you feeling congested, oily, or like you're going to break out.

The oil cleanser is used with dry hands onto dry face, directly over makeup.  It's massaged into the skin, even over eye makeup, then rinsed clean.  Be sure that you're rinsing all of the oil off of your skin, then follow with the foaming cleanser.

For this kit you’ll use the Cremorlab TEN Cremor Cleansing Gel Oil This hydrating gel-type cleansing oil very gently but effectively clears the skin of build-up, including makeup and dirt. Oil cleansers are lauded as the essential first step in dual facial cleansing to restore the skin's natural balance. Made with Cremorlab's T.E.N. thermal water, evening primrose, and andiroba oils, this cleansing gel quickly dissolves makeup residue and skin impurities while also moisturizing and helping to improve skin's appearance.
