HYDRATION 101: At-home skincare tricks

Exfoliate skin for better moisture absorption

It is a common misconception that exfoliation can irritate the skin and cause dryness. To avoid an over-drying, squeaky-cleanness, gentle exfoliators should be used to gently slough away dead skin cells that prevent your skin from absorbing moisture effectively. Here are some of our favorite gentle exfoliators:

Apple Smoothie Peeling Gel

- Rids the skin of dead skin cells and dirt without harsh chemicals or skin-irritating microbeads

Binchotan Facial Puff


- All-natural facial puff made with Binchotan charcoal and Konjac root to gently exfoliate, cleanse, and detoxify the face

Infuse moisture into skin

  1. Switch out your lighter, “hot weather” moisturizing products for thicker, “cold weather” ones. It helps to have a separate winter skincare regimen, because your skin is more susceptible to dryness in the cold and in heated indoor areas.   2. Use facial sheet masks to infuse moisture deep into the dermis. These one-time use products give effective, visible results that you can see right away. You skin will look hydrated and glow.
  3.  If you’d like to try a homemade face mask, oatmeal is one of our favorite ingredients to play with. Oatmeal had soothing and healing properties, and it is also a natural remedy to acne because it helps remove dead skin cells while soaking up unnecessary oil. One way to make an oatmeal face mask is as follows:
    - Grind oatmeal in a food processor
    - Mix 1:1 oatmeal and milk with a tablespoon of honey
    - Spread over skin, wait for 10 minutes, and rinse with lukewarm water

  4. Use a sheet or oatmeal mask during your bath.


  5. Carry around a facial mist in your bag and spritz away every other hour. If you tend to forget, keep one on your desk at work or at home so you don’t forget to use it!

  6. Order a mini humidifier for your workspace. Heated indoor areas can severely dry out your skin and cause itching and irritation.

  7. Try these DIY facial massage techniques that will help microcirculation deep within your skin and improve elasticity & moisture retention.

Seal it all in

  1. Shower with a dollop of face cream on. Steam from the shower + moisturizing cream will work together like a face mask.

  2. Apply a face cream or sleeping mask generously at night. After all, it’s better to go to bed super-hydrated in the privacy of your room, rather than walk around all day with a shiny face!
